VA CPE Modernization Act

The VA CPE Modernization Act (H.R. 543) aims to expand the financial support provided to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare workers for their ongoing professional training. Currently, only board-certified physicians and dentists are eligible for reimbursement for continuing education expenses; this bill would remove the board-certification requirement and extend eligibility to a wider range of full-time medical staff, including registered nurses and other healthcare professionals.

For veterans and the general public, this legislation is intended to improve the quality of care at VA facilities by ensuring a broader segment of the medical workforce can stay current with the latest medical advancements and certifications. By increasing the minimum reimbursement amount to $2,000 per year and covering more staff positions, the bill also serves as a recruitment and retention tool to help address staffing shortages within the VA healthcare system.
