To amend title 38, United States Code, to expand the definition of active duty for purposes of the Post-9/11 Educational Assistance Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs to include certain service in the National Guard.

H.R. 5826 would expand eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill to include more members of the National Guard. Under this legislation, full-time National Guard service performed for the purposes of organizing, recruiting, or training would count toward the active-duty requirements needed to qualify for educational benefits. Additionally, the bill would grant credit for service performed during federally funded national emergencies declared by the President. This change is intended to ensure that National Guard members receive the same tuition assistance and housing allowances as other veterans for time spent serving in these specific capacities.
