Veteran Benefits Enhancement Act

H.R. 5982 would modify the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Act to ensure that military retirement pay is not classified as a social insurance payment. Currently, veterans who work in the railroad industry may have their unemployment benefits reduced because of their military retirement income. This bill would close that provision, allowing veterans to receive the full unemployment benefits they are entitled to without penalty for their military service. The legislation is currently under committee consideration and would require presidential signature to become law if passed.
