National Infrastructure Corps Act of 2006
Summary
National Infrastructure Corps Act of 2006 - Amends the National and Community Service Act of 1990 to establish a National Infrastructure Corps of up to 40,000 eligible individuals, to be operated by the Corporation for National and Community Service, in order to address: (1) the economic infrastructure needs of the Nation through the performance of eligible projects; and (2) high rates of unemployment in urban and rural areas by providing employment opportunities to eligible individuals.
Directs the Corporation to: (1) select, in cooperation with the Secretary of the Army, acting through the Chief of Engineers, eligible projects based on proposals submitted by federal, state, and local entities; (2) provide financial assistance; and (3) give priority to disaster relief projects to repair vital infrastructure facilities damaged by natural disasters and emergencies, including projects to address damages resulting from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
