Safer GAMING Act
Summary
The Safer GAMING Act (Safer Guarding of Adolescents from Malicious Interactions on Network Games Act) would require online video game providers to implement safeguards protecting minors under 18. The bill would mandate that video game creators offer parental control features that are enabled by default on accounts for minors, allowing parents to limit or disable communication between their children and other players. These controls would be accessible and easy to use, and could only be disabled by a parent. The bill applies to interactive online video games accessible through websites, mobile applications, or other online means.
The Federal Trade Commission would be responsible for enforcing the requirements, treating violations as unfair or deceptive practices. The bill is currently under committee consideration, having been forwarded by the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade to the full committee in December 2025. If enacted, the legislation would give parents tools to manage their children's interactions on gaming platforms and reduce exposure to potentially harmful communications from strangers or malicious actors.
