Information Quality Assurance Act of 2025

The Information Quality Assurance Act of 2025 would strengthen how federal agencies use information when developing regulations and guidance. The bill would require the Office of Management and Budget to update guidelines ensuring that federal agencies rely on the best available scientific, technical, demographic, economic, and statistical information when creating rules and guidance. This applies specifically to influential information that significantly impacts public actions or private sector decisions.

Under this bill, federal agencies would be required to publish the key factual materials and data sources they relied upon when developing new rules or guidance, and allow for public comment on this information. This increased transparency would give citizens and businesses better visibility into how government decisions are made and what evidence supports them.

The bill passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support (362-1 vote) and is now in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The Congressional Budget Office estimates implementation would cost approximately $10 million to update guidelines and about $2 million annually for agencies to publish supporting materials, with no new federal funding required.
