Blast Overpressure Research and Mitigation Task Force Act
Summary
H.R. 6444 would direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to establish a Blast Overpressure Task Force within 180 days of enactment. The task force would operate under the VA-Department of Defense Joint Executive Committee and focus on improving healthcare and benefits for veterans and military members who have experienced blast-related injuries, including traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. The task force would coordinate research strategies, establish health baselines, and prioritize research in areas such as sleep therapy, gut health, mobile diagnostics, and neurological conditions. The task force would produce annual reports to Congress detailing research initiatives, clinical advancements, and recommendations for how VA claims processors should evaluate evidence. The task force would operate until September 30, 2029. If enacted, this bill would aim to improve understanding and treatment of blast-related injuries that have significantly impacted military personnel by unifying research efforts across the VA and military departments.
