Drill Responsibly in Leased Lands Act of 2008

H.R. 6515, the Drill Responsibly in Leased Lands Act of 2008, seeks to increase domestic energy production by requiring annual oil and gas lease sales in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska through 2013. The bill would expedite the construction of pipelines to transport these resources to U.S. markets and would ban the export of Alaskan North Slope crude oil to ensure the supply remains within the United States. Additionally, it would prohibit companies from obtaining new federal leases unless they demonstrate they are actively developing their existing leases or relinquish those that are sitting idle.
