Veterans Cold Weather Injury Compensation Act

H.R. 764, the Veterans Cold Weather Injury Compensation Act, would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to create a registry of veterans who were exposed to freezing temperatures for seven or more consecutive days during their active military service. This registry would be used to study the long-term health effects of extreme cold and establish a formal link between that exposure and specific disabilities. Under this bill, injuries identified as being caused by these conditions would be presumed to be service-connected, making it easier for affected veterans to qualify for and receive disability compensation.
