District of Columbia National Guard Home Rule Act

H.R. 811, the District of Columbia National Guard Home Rule Act, would transfer control of the District of Columbia National Guard from the President of the United States to the Mayor of the District of Columbia. This change would give the Mayor the same authority over the local National Guard that governors of the 50 states and territories currently possess. Practically, this would allow the Mayor to deploy the D.C. National Guard more quickly for local emergencies, such as natural disasters or public safety incidents, without requiring federal approval.
