Roadway Resiliency Act
Summary
The Roadway Resiliency Act aims to improve how the nation’s transportation infrastructure handles extreme weather and environmental challenges. If enacted, the bill would require the Secretary of Transportation and the Director of the National Weather Service to establish an interagency working group. This group would be tasked with developing and sharing best practices for roadway management to ensure that streets and highways remain functional and safe during inclement weather events.
Under the proposal, the working group would have 180 days to form and another 180 days to submit its findings and recommendations to Congress. By coordinating expertise between transportation officials and weather experts, the bill seeks to help state and local governments better prepare for and respond to climate-related disruptions. For everyday citizens, this could eventually lead to fewer road closures, improved emergency evacuation routes, and more durable infrastructure in the face of increasingly frequent storms or floods.
