Extension of the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act
Description
This bill, which was signed into law in October 2020, extends a long-standing trade program that allows certain goods from Caribbean nations to enter the United States without being subject to standard import taxes (duties). Specifically, it ensures that apparel made in the Caribbean—using U.S.-made fabrics and yarns—can continue to be sold in the U.S. duty-free through September 30, 2030. For everyday citizens, this law helps maintain stable prices for clothing and textile products by preventing new taxes on these imports. It also supports American jobs by requiring Caribbean manufacturers to use materials produced by U.S. textile workers, while simultaneously encouraging economic stability and job growth in neighboring Caribbean countries like Haiti and Jamaica.
