HEALTH Act
Summary
This non-binding resolution would establish a new standing committee in the House of Representatives dedicated solely to health-related legislation. The proposed Committee on Health would have jurisdiction over biomedical research and development, the Food and Drug Administration, health care and health facilities funded by general revenues, and public health matters including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Currently, these responsibilities are split among the House Committee on Education and the Workforce and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
If enacted, this resolution would consolidate health policy oversight under one committee, potentially streamlining how Congress addresses healthcare issues. However, as a non-binding resolution, this measure would not have the force of law and would not directly change how federal agencies operate. The resolution is currently in the early stages of the legislative process, having been introduced in January 2025 and referred to committee for consideration.
