A bill to modify the boundaries of the Talladega National Forest, and for other purposes.
Summary
S. 1350 would modify the boundaries of the Talladega National Forest in Alabama by expanding its proclamation boundary by approximately 50,000 acres across three counties in East Alabama. The expansion would connect fragmented forest areas and extend trail networks, particularly completing the southern portion of the Pinhoti Trail, a major hiking route in the region.
If enacted, the bill would allow the U.S. Forest Service to acquire additional private land within the expanded boundary from willing sellers through donation, exchange, or purchase. The newly acquired land would be managed under the same laws and regulations that govern the existing National Forest System. Supporters argue the expansion would strengthen conservation efforts, support wildlife habitat connectivity, and boost outdoor tourism and economic activity in surrounding communities.
The bill has passed committee review in the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and is now eligible for a floor vote. However, it has not yet been enacted into law.
