Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2025
Summary
S. 2327, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2025, would require the U.S. Comptroller General to conduct a full audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and all Federal Reserve banks. If enacted, the Comptroller General would have 12 months after the bill becomes law to complete this audit, which would evaluate the Federal Reserve's financial activities and practices.
Within 90 days of completing the audit, the Comptroller General would be required to submit a detailed report to Congress with findings and conclusions. The report would be made available to congressional leadership and relevant committee members. Supporters of the bill argue that subjecting the Federal Reserve to a comprehensive audit could provide greater clarity about the central bank's operations and decision-making. The bill is currently under consideration in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, where hearings were held in December 2025, but it has not yet been voted on by the full Senate.
