Patients Deserve Price Tags Act
Summary
S. 2355, the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act, would strengthen healthcare price transparency requirements if enacted. The bill would require hospitals, clinical diagnostic laboratories, imaging centers, and ambulatory surgical centers to publicly disclose actual prices for medical services in consumer-friendly formats. Insurance plans would also need to provide detailed pricing information through self-service tools, including in-network rates, cost-sharing amounts, and accumulated deductibles. Additionally, the bill would require healthcare providers to issue itemized bills within 30 days of final payment and would prohibit collection actions if disclosed prices exceed amounts ultimately billed.
The bill aims to help patients understand healthcare costs, compare prices across providers, and make more informed decisions about their care. It would also strengthen enforcement mechanisms with greater penalties for noncompliance and would give employers and group health plans better access to claims data from third-party administrators and pharmacy benefit managers. The bill is currently under consideration by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, with hearings held in March 2026.
