FAIR Meat Packing Act

The Feed America by Incentivizing Rural Meat Packing (FAIR) Meat Packing Act proposes tax incentives to encourage the growth and operation of small to mid-sized meat processing facilities. Specifically, it would provide a 25% investment tax credit (up to $250,000 annually) for equipment and property used in livestock processing, as well as a refundable tax credit to help cover the initial startup costs of opening a new facility.

To qualify for these benefits, a facility must employ fewer than 500 people and belong to a company with less than $100 million in annual gross receipts. For citizens, this bill aims to diversify the meat supply chain by supporting local and independent processors, potentially increasing competition in the industry and providing more options for farmers to bring their livestock to market.
