Facilitating Innovative Nuclear Diagnostics Act of 2021

The Facilitating Innovative Nuclear Diagnostics (FIND) Act of 2021 aims to change how Medicare pays for advanced medical imaging tests that use radioactive drugs, known as diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals. Currently, Medicare often bundles the cost of these drugs into a single flat payment for the entire imaging procedure, which can result in hospitals losing money when they use newer, more expensive diagnostic tools.

If passed, this bill would require Medicare to pay for high-cost radiopharmaceuticals (those costing $500 or more per day) separately from the procedure itself. For patients, this change is intended to improve access to precise diagnostic tools for conditions like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and various cancers by ensuring hospitals are adequately reimbursed for the specialized materials required for these advanced scans.
