9/11 Memorial and Museum Act
Summary
S. 2734 would authorize the Department of Homeland Security to award a one-time federal grant to the organization operating the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center in New York City. The grant would be used exclusively for the operation, security, and maintenance of the memorial and museum facilities that commemorate the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
As a condition of receiving the grant, the organization would be required to provide free admission to active and retired military members, registered first responders to the 9/11 attacks, and family members of victims. The organization would also need to offer dedicated free admission hours for the general public at least once per week. Additionally, the bill would require annual federal audits of the organization's financial statements, including revenues from ticket sales, donations, and grants, with results made available to the public.
The bill is currently in committee and has not yet been voted on by the full Senate. If enacted, it would provide financial support to help preserve and maintain this national memorial site for current and future generations.
