Summary
Medicare Telehealth Validation Act of 2002 - Amends title XVIII (Medicare) the Social Security Act to expand access to telehealth services (professional services furnished via a telecommunications system, including the asynchronous transmission of health care information in single or multimedia formats) under the Medicare program: (1) beyond the demonstration program conducted in Alaska or Hawaii; (2) by increasing the types of originating sites, including skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities; and (3) by encouraging States to adopt provisions allowing for multistate practitioner licensure across State lines.
Requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Director of the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth, to make grants to expand health care services in rural and medically underserved areas through the use of telehealth.
Requires the Joint Working Group on Telehealth to include representatives of rural and medically underserved areas.
