Cheaper Car Insurance Act of 2002
Summary
Directs the Department of Justice to publish best practices for the States to use: (1) in licensing auto body shops that perform work paid for by insurers; and (2) in licensing medical treatment provided to people who are injured in automobile accidents.
Requires the Attorney General to cooperate with the offices of the U.S. Attorneys to: (1) aggressively investigate fraudulent chop shops, salvage yards, and automobile insurance fraud; and (2) report statistics on such investigations, prosecutions, and convictions.
Directs the Attorney General to establish investigative and prosecutorial special units in such offices in the ten U.S. cities most severely affected by automobile insurance fraud in order to investigate and prosecute it.
