Summary
Medicare Competitive Acquisition Act of 2002 - Amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to implement programs and demonstration projects to purchase, on behalf of individuals enrolled under Medicare part B (Supplementary Medical Insurance), from entities under contract with the Secretary certain competitively priced items and services in competitive acquisition areas for which payment is made under such part. Provides for continuation of current demonstration projects for competitive acquisition of items and services.
Directs the Comptroller General to study and report to specified congressional committees on Medicare coverage of new and innovative durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, supplies, and equipment and the coding of such items for Medicare payment purposes.
