MORE WATER Act
Summary
S. 3738, the MORE WATER Act (Making Our communities Resilient through Enhancing Water for Agriculture, Technology, the Environment, and Residences Act), would amend the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to reauthorize the large-scale water recycling and reuse program and establish a Water Conveyance Improvement Program. The bill would support water conveyance projects that provide multiple benefits to communities, including improved water supply, environmental benefits to threatened or endangered species, and enhanced aquatic or terrestrial habitats. The legislation would allow eligible entities such as states, Indian tribes, municipalities, irrigation districts, and water districts to serve as project sponsors and contribute to the non-federal share of conveyance projects. The bill includes provisions to ensure that low-income communities receive consideration in project planning and implementation. Currently, the bill is under consideration by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, with hearings held in March 2026. If enacted, the bill would provide a framework for federal support of water infrastructure improvements focused on recycling, reuse, and conveyance systems across the country.
