Fertilizer Transparency Act of 2026

The Fertilizer Transparency Act of 2026 aims to address rising agricultural costs by requiring fertilizer manufacturers and wholesalers to report their prices and sales volumes to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on a weekly basis. Currently, the USDA relies on a voluntary annual survey to track these costs, which supporters of the bill argue does not provide the timely information farmers need to navigate volatile markets. The proposed program would specifically track key nutrients—nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium—and distinguish between domestic and imported products.

If enacted, the USDA would be required to publish this pricing data at least once a week on a public platform, organized by national and regional levels. This shift is intended to help farmers make more informed purchasing decisions and foster greater competition within the fertilizer industry, which has recently seen significant price spikes due to global supply chain disruptions. To protect businesses, the bill includes provisions to keep the identities of individual companies and specific contract details confidential.
