AIM Act of 2022

The ATF Improvement and Modernization (AIM) Act of 2022 proposes to remove several long-standing legal restrictions on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) regarding the management of firearm records and enforcement. If passed, the bill would allow the federal government to create a centralized, searchable database of gun records, eliminate the requirement to destroy background check data within 24 hours, and permit the ATF to require gun dealers to conduct physical inventories of their stock. Additionally, the bill lowers the legal threshold for the government to revoke a federal firearms license and makes it easier for the agency to deny import applications for certain types of shotguns.
