Deerfield River Wild and Scenic River Study Act of 2022

The Deerfield River Wild and Scenic River Study Act of 2022 proposes a formal study of approximately 76 miles of the Deerfield River and its tributaries in Massachusetts and Vermont to determine if they qualify for the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. This study would evaluate the river’s recreational, fish and wildlife, and geologic values to see if they meet federal standards for protection. For local citizens, a "Wild and Scenic" designation would aim to preserve the river’s free-flowing condition and water quality while preventing federal projects, such as new dams, that could harm its natural character.
