Electronic Waste Recycling Promotion and Consumer Protection Act

The Electronic Waste Recycling Promotion and Consumer Protection Act (S. 510) would establish a national framework for managing discarded electronics, such as computer monitors and system units. The bill proposes a tax credit for both individual consumers and professional recyclers to offset the costs of recycling these items, while also mandating that federal agencies recycle their own electronic waste. Additionally, the legislation would implement a nationwide ban on disposing of electronic waste in landfills three years after its enactment and directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to study the feasibility of a uniform national recycling program.
