Prevent Prematurity and Improve Child Health Act of 2005

This bill proposes to expand healthcare access for low-income families by giving states more flexibility under Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). It would allow states to extend health coverage to more low-income pregnant women and legal immigrant children, while also providing specific funding for tobacco cessation counseling and medications to help pregnant women quit smoking. Additionally, the legislation would grant states the option to offer family planning services to more individuals and provide supplemental "wrap-around" insurance to children who already have basic health coverage but require additional benefits.
