Informed Choice Act

The Informed Choice Act (S. 755) would establish a federal grant program to help nonprofit, community-based pregnancy clinics purchase ultrasound equipment. Under this bill, the Department of Health and Human Services would provide grants covering up to 50 percent of the equipment's cost, capped at $20,000 per clinic.

For citizens, this legislation would mean that participating clinics must provide ultrasound examinations to pregnant women free of charge. During these exams, clinic staff would be required to show the patient the visual image of the fetus, describe its anatomy and age, and provide information regarding both abortion and alternatives such as adoption and childbirth. To qualify for the funding, clinics would also be required to maintain medical malpractice insurance.
