Apprenticeships to College Act
Summary
The Apprenticeships to College Act would formalize a partnership between the Department of Labor and Department of Education to help apprentices earn college credits for their completed apprenticeship training. The bill would establish an apprenticeship college consortium that brings together colleges, apprenticeship programs, employers, and other partners to create stronger connections between apprenticeships and postsecondary education.
Under the bill, participating colleges and apprenticeship programs would be required to create agreements that award academic credit for apprenticeship-related instruction and on-the-job training that workers have already completed. The legislation would also support the development of electronic transcripts for apprenticeship programs and provide technical assistance to help apprentices use federal financial aid. Additionally, the bill would encourage new agreements between colleges and apprenticeship sponsors, ensure support services are available to apprentices, and expand collaboration to measure program success.
