Servicemembers Civil Relief Act

This bill, which was signed into law in December 2003, updates and strengthens legal protections for active-duty military members to ensure they are not financially or legally disadvantaged while serving. It prevents creditors from foreclosing on homes or repossessing property without a court order and raises the rent limit that protects service members and their families from eviction. Additionally, the law allows for the temporary postponement of civil court proceedings, such as bankruptcy or divorce cases, and increases life insurance coverage protections to better support military families.
