SAFE-ID Act

The Safeguarding Americans From Exporting Identification Data Act (SAFE-ID Act) would require businesses to notify U.S. residents before sending their personal information to foreign countries for processing or storage. Under this bill, consumers would have the right to opt out of having their data shared internationally, and companies would be prohibited from denying services or ending business relationships if a customer chooses to keep their data within the United States. Additionally, the bill would hold companies legally liable for damages if a consumer’s information is misused after being transferred to a foreign entity.
