Tyler’s Law
Summary
Tyler's Law would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct a comprehensive study on fentanyl testing practices in hospital emergency departments. Within three years of enactment, the study would examine how frequently hospitals test for fentanyl and related substances when patients experience overdoses, identify situations where testing does not occur, assess associated costs, and evaluate potential benefits and risks for patients. The study would also consider staff training needs, impacts on patient privacy, and barriers to implementation.
