About
Alan Armstrong is the junior United States Senator from Oklahoma, appointed in March 2026 by Governor Kevin Stitt following the resignation of Markwayne Mullin to become secretary of homeland security. Born July 11, 1962, Armstrong is a third-generation Oklahoman who was raised in Bartlesville and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in civil engineering. Before entering the Senate, Armstrong spent nearly four decades in the energy sector, serving as president and CEO of Williams Companies, a major natural gas pipeline operator headquartered in Tulsa, from 2011 until transitioning to executive chairman in 2025.
As a newly appointed senator, Armstrong has not yet been assigned to standing committees. His stated policy focus centers on energy policy and infrastructure permitting reform, which he views as critical to American competitiveness and energy independence. Armstrong has indicated his top priority will be working across party lines to achieve meaningful permitting reform for major infrastructure projects. He has also served on the National Petroleum Council and is a founding member of Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future. Armstrong will serve the remainder of Mullin's term through the November 2026 election, at which point he is prohibited by Oklahoma law from seeking the seat in a regular election.
