Tom Cotton is a Republican U.S. Senator from Arkansas and former Army officer known for his hawkish foreign policy views toward China, Iran, and Palestine.
Background
Tom Cotton attended Harvard Law School and subsequently served as a law clerk for Judge Jerry Edwin Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He worked in private legal practice as an associate at the law firms Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Cooper & Kirk in Washington, D.C. In 2005, he left his legal career to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he served as an officer.
Political career
Tom Cotton began his political career after serving as a law clerk and working in private legal practice. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012, where he represented Arkansas's 4th congressional district from 2013 to 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he was then elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014 and has served as the junior senator from Arkansas since 2015.
