About
Jon Husted is a Republican U.S. Senator from Ohio who previously served as the state's lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives.
Background
Jon Husted was born on August 25, 1967, and earned a master's degree from the University of Dayton. Before entering elected office, he worked for Montgomery County Commissioner Don Lucas and served as the Vice President of Business and Economic Development at the Dayton-Area Chamber of Commerce. He also considered a career in athletics, having been offered a position on the football coaching staff at the University of Toledo while completing his graduate studies.
Political career
A member of the Republican Party, Jon Husted served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009, including a period as Speaker of the House, and in the Ohio Senate from 2009 to 2011. He later held statewide office as the Ohio Secretary of State from 2011 to 2019 and as the Lieutenant Governor of Ohio from 2019 to 2025. Husted was appointed to the United States Senate to fill a vacancy and was sworn in on January 21, 2025.
