Ron Johnson is a Republican U.S. Senator from Wisconsin who was first elected in 2010 after serving as the chief executive officer of a plastics manufacturer.
Background
Ron Johnson was born in Mankato, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in business and accounting. He began his professional career as an accountant and later moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to help start a plastic manufacturing company called Pacur. He served as the company's chief executive officer from the mid-1980s until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2010.
Political career
Ron Johnson entered politics after a career as the chief executive officer of a plastics manufacturing company, having never held prior elected office. A Republican, he was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010 and has served as the senior senator from Wisconsin since 2011. He was subsequently reelected to his seat in 2016 and 2022.
