Rosen, Jacky

Jacky Rosen was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018, defeating one-term Republican senator Dean Heller to become the junior senator from Nevada. She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1979 and an associate degree in computing and information technology from Clark County Community College in 1985. Before beginning her political career, Rosen worked as a computer programmer and software developer. A former computer programmer with no political experience at the time, Rosen was asked by U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid to run in the 2016 election for the U.S. House seat being vacated by Republican Joe Heck, and was sworn into office on January 3, 2017.\n\nAs ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, which was created in 2017 following Russian hacking attempts against the US, Rosen oversees policies and programs related to cyber forces, operations and capabilities within the Department of Defense. She was also named the Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on the Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism.
