Background
Mike Bost was raised in Murphysboro, Illinois, and graduated from Murphysboro High School before serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1982. He attended a firefighter academy program through the University of Illinois and worked as a firefighter. Additionally, he managed his family's trucking business for a decade and has co-owned a salon with his wife since 1989.
Political career
Mike Bost began his political career serving on the Jackson County Board and in various Murphysboro Township roles before spending two decades in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1995 to 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he has served as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 12th congressional district since 2015. Prior to his time in elected office, he served in the United States Marine Corps and worked as a firefighter.
