Background
Mike Carey served in the Army National Guard from 1989 to 1999 and worked as an aide to State Senator Merle G. Kearns while he was a college student. Before entering Congress, he had a career in the energy industry, serving as the vice president of government affairs for American Consolidated Natural Resources and as chairman of the board for the Ohio Coal Association. He also worked on political media, developing campaign advertisements during the 2004 and 2008 presidential elections.
