Jasmine Crockett represents Texas's 30th congressional district and serves as ranking member of the House Oversight Subcommittee, a position that gives her significant power to shape the minority party's investigative agenda and challenge majority initiatives. As ranking member, she leads Democratic questioning during hearings, directs staff investigations, and coordinates her party's response to oversight matters—though she lacks the majority's ability to schedule hearings or advance legislation independently. She also sits on the House Judiciary Committee and its Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, as well as the January 6 Select Subcommittee.

Crockett's background directly equips her for this oversight role. After earning a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 2006, she spent three years as a public defender in Bowie County, Texas, gaining experience in criminal justice and government accountability. She later founded her own law firm focusing on civil rights, criminal defense, and personal injury work, including pro bono representation of Black Lives Matter activists and protest participants in Dallas. This combination of public defense experience and civil rights advocacy shaped her focus on government accountability and constitutional protections.

Since entering Congress in 2023, Crockett has pursued legislation aligned with her oversight and civil rights priorities, sponsoring 40 bills including the TRACK ICE Act and the No Presidential Payouts Act. Her committee assignments reflect a strategic focus on government efficiency, immigration enforcement, and judicial matters. She is currently a candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas in 2026, positioning herself as a voice for accountability and civil rights within the Democratic caucus.
