About
Darrell Issa is a Republican U.S. Representative for California's 48th district and a businessman who co-founded Directed Electronics, a major maker of automobile security products.
Background
Born on November 1, 1953, Darrell Issa served in the military before becoming a prominent electronics executive. He co-founded Directed Electronics in 1982, a company that became a major manufacturer of automotive security products like the Viper car alarm. In addition to his work in the electronics industry, he has served as the CEO of the real estate investment firm Greene Properties.
Political career
A member of the Republican Party, Darrell Issa first entered the U.S. House of Representatives in 2001, representing California's 48th district for one term and then the 49th district for eight terms until 2019. After a brief departure from Congress, he was elected to represent the 50th district in 2020 and began serving in that role in 2021. Following redistricting, he transitioned to representing California's 48th district again starting in 2023.
