Trent Kelly is a Republican U.S. Representative from Mississippi's 1st district and a U.S. Army major general who previously served as a district attorney.
Background
Trent Kelly was born in Union, Mississippi, and earned an associate's degree from East Central Community College before graduating from the University of Mississippi and its School of Law. He also received a master's degree from the United States Army War College and has served in the Mississippi Army National Guard since 1985. Before his election to Congress, he worked in private legal practice, served as a city prosecutor in Tupelo, and was the district attorney for Mississippi's 1st Judicial District.
Political career
Trent Kelly began his career in public service as a city prosecutor in Tupelo before being elected district attorney of Mississippi's 1st Judicial District in 2011. A member of the Republican Party, he has served as the U.S. representative for Mississippi's 1st congressional district since 2015. He also holds the rank of major general in the U.S. Army.
Current focus
Kelly, Trent represents the 1st congressional district of MS in the U.S. House. Kelly, Trent currently serves on the Central Intelligence Agency, the Forestry and Horticulture, and the House Committee on Agriculture. They have sponsored 27 bills in the current House, including H.R. 5468; H.R. 3476; H.R. 3397.
