About
Dan Newhouse is a Republican Representative serving Washington's 4th Congressional District, which encompasses much of Central Washington, including Yakima and the Tri-Cities. A third-generation farmer, he holds a degree in agricultural economics from Washington State University. Before entering Congress in 2015, he served four terms in the Washington House of Representatives and led the Washington State Department of Agriculture as its director from 2009 to 2013.
In the House, he holds several influential committee assignments, including the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Agriculture, where he serves as Chair of the Forestry and Horticulture Subcommittee. His legislative work is heavily centered on the needs of his rural district, focusing on energy, water development, and agricultural research. He also serves on the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
He has sponsored numerous bills aimed at supporting the agricultural industry and managing natural resources, such as the ACRES Act and the Electric Act. Beyond his committee work, he has held leadership roles as the Chair of the Congressional Western Caucus, where he advocates for rural communities and western land interests. In late 2025, he announced that he would not seek re-election for a seventh term in the 2026 cycle.
