First elected to Congress in 2024, he was sworn in on January 3, 2025. Before his election to the House, Olszewski served as Baltimore County Executive from 2018 to 2025, managing a $5 billion budget and more than 9,000 employees. Earlier in his career, he served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2006 to 2015, where he became the youngest lawmaker ever to chair Baltimore County's House delegation. He began his professional life as a public-school teacher and holds a bachelor's degree from Goucher College, a master's degree from George Washington University, and a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
In Congress, Olszewski serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on Small Business, focusing on issues spanning from Main Street America to global affairs. He also secured a competitive seat on the influential Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. He delivered unprecedented investments in public education and launched near-universal free community college for residents. His administration earned widespread praise for its response to crises including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. In his first year in Congress, he returned more than $2.9 million from federal agencies directly to constituents of his district.
