Congressional Access to Military Posts Act of 2025
Summary
The Congressional Access to Military Posts Act of 2025 aims to streamline the process for Members of Congress and certain congressional employees to enter U.S. military installations. Under the proposed legislation, the Secretary of Defense would be required to establish procedures that allow lawmakers to gain entry simply by presenting a valid congressional identification badge. This access would apply to bases within the United States and Guam where military personnel typically enter using standard Department of Defense credentials.
If enacted, the bill would prohibit the Department of Defense from requiring Members of Congress to pre-schedule their visits or undergo additional bureaucratic screening beyond showing their official ID. Congressional staff accompanying a Member would also be granted the same expedited access. The proposal is designed to facilitate more frequent and spontaneous oversight visits, allowing elected officials to inspect facilities and meet with personnel without the delays often associated with current base access protocols.
