Hire Veterans Act

The Hire Veterans Act would direct the Office of Personnel Management to create a five-year pilot program focused on recruiting veterans and placing them in federal land management agencies such as the National Park Service. The program would test veterans' relevant strengths and abilities, and those who demonstrate necessary qualifications could receive non-competitive career-conditional job appointments, meaning they would bypass the standard competitive hiring process.

Veterans who do not initially demonstrate sufficient abilities on the tests would be referred to training programs, after which they could retake the assessments. If enacted, this bill could expand employment opportunities for veterans in federal land management roles and potentially increase the number of veterans working in these agencies. The bill is currently in committee and has not yet been voted on by the full House.
