Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act of 2025

The Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act would amend federal law to provide benefits to firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other public safety personnel who develop certain cancers. The bill would establish a legal presumption that specific occupational cancers—including brain, lung, prostate, and breast cancer—are work-related injuries if an officer has served at least five years, eliminating the need for survivors to prove direct causation from job exposure. This would allow eligible survivors to receive death benefits, disability payments, and education assistance without having to demonstrate a specific exposure incident. The legislation addresses a significant gap in current federal support, as cancer is one of the leading causes of death among firefighters and first responders but has not been adequately covered under existing benefit programs.
