Tennessee Valley Authority Transparency Act of 2025
Summary
The Tennessee Valley Authority Transparency Act of 2025 proposes to increase public oversight of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) by mandating more frequent and open communication with the public. If enacted, the bill would require the TVA Board of Directors to hold at least four public meetings every year. To ensure citizens have the opportunity to attend or follow these proceedings, the board would be required to provide public notice at least six days before a meeting occurs, except in cases designated as emergencies.
Because the TVA is a federally owned corporation providing electricity and land management services across seven states—Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia—this legislation aims to give residents in those areas more direct insight into how their utility provider is managed. By requiring regular public forums, the bill seeks to make the decision-making process regarding regional electricity costs, flood control, and navigation more transparent to the millions of people served by the Tennessee River system.
