Judicial Ethics Enforcement Act of 2025
Summary
The Judicial Ethics Enforcement Act of 2025 would establish a new Office of Inspector General for the Judicial Branch. This office would have authority to investigate alleged violations of the Code of Conduct for Supreme Court Justices and other misconduct within the Supreme Court. The Inspector General would have broad investigative powers, including the ability to subpoena witnesses and documents, obtain information from federal and state agencies, and make reports to Congress and the Chief Justice.
The bill would also include protections for judicial branch employees who report misconduct or assist in investigations, prohibiting retaliation such as demotion, suspension, or harassment. The Inspector General would be required to report annually to Congress and the Chief Justice on the office's activities, and would report criminal violations to the Attorney General. The bill is currently under consideration by the House Judiciary Committee and has not yet been voted on by the full House.
